I build robots

00About

I design and build robots.

Most of what I know came from competitive robotics: designing mechanisms, machining parts, and debugging autonomous code between matches.

I'm most interested in where mechanical design meets software, and in humanoid and autonomous systems in particular.

01Interests

What I love.

Humanoids

Humanoid and legged robots are what got me into this. Atlas and Optimus are the clearest examples of the problem I find most interesting: machines that work in spaces built for people.

Mechanism design

Gear ratios, belt tension, tolerances. Most of my time goes into CAD, and then into actually making the parts.

03

Autonomy

Odometry, path following, and vision. Getting a robot to repeat the same routine reliably is harder than it looks.

Building it

I'd rather be able to build what I design. Machining, printing, soldering, and wiring are part of the job.

02Work

What I've built.

Competitive robotics is where my passion was born, two FIRST programs and several build seasons.

SMU

Outside the competition season I've been working on small autonomous aircraft, including the airframe, onboard compute, and flight software.

03Outside work

Outside of robotics.

Outside of the shop, I love to explore, travel, and find new questions to solve.
